Local High School Students Revved Up For Final Performances Of Pippin

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- If you missed Thursday night's debut of Pippin at Port Chester High School, you' still have xxx opportunities to see the production. About 75 student actors, musicians and crew members have a role in the popular musical.

Josh Tenzer, a PCHS special education teacher, drama club adviser and producer of Pippin, said tickets can be purchased at the auditorium before the Friday and Saturday shows, which begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. About 150 people enjoyed Thursday night's show, Tenzer said, and more than 250 are expected Friday night.

Devon James is the musical's director/choreographer, Michael Mastroianni is musical director, Patrick O'Connor is technical director, Taryn Grimes-Herbert is vocal coach and PCHS senior Diana Maldonado is serving as stage manager.

Members of the orchestra are: on keyboard 1/conducting Michael Mastroianni, keyboard 2 Dan Ferrante, guitar 1 Neal Johnson, bass John Feliciano, drums Sam Wagner, percussion. Michael Blancaflor, reed 1 Henry Hernandez, reed 2 Rob Jacoby, trumpet Ken Kraut, French horn Marc Wager, trombone 1 Bob Carlson, trombone 2 Samuel Brown, a PCHS senior, and Karen Lindquist on harp.

Pippin crew members include: Diana Maldonado, Madeline Ann Strauch, Julianna Tenefrancia, Benny Olonilua, Sheilly Aguilar, Jomar Arias, Jazmine Arteaga, Shaileen Bello, Cristina Bonilla, Xiomara DeLaHoz, Angel Gutierrez, Hilda Gonzalez, Anita Karas, Jorge Lopez, Cristina Huyhua, Esmeralda Medina, Ja’liza Michaux, Jessica More, Dan Morales, Jared Pena, Jalissa Pirro, Ayana Rivers, Ariana Soriano, Sam Martinez, Bryan Vasquez, Ricardo Vega, Yonely Vicente, Danni Urrutia, Jacinta Olonilua and Sakina Zehra.

A March 12 benefit concert featuring Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Seth Glier (see video by clicking here) raised nearly $3,000 to help pay for sets, costumes and other costs for the high school musical of Pippin.

On March 31, 10 Pippin cast members attended the Ben Vereen concert at the Palace Theater in Stamford, Conn. The night was filled with Vereen singing songs from Pippin, Wicked, Jesus Christ Superstar, Frank Sinatra and Etta James. 

"He told stories of his past and inspirational words about the importance of supporting the Arts," Tenzer said. "The cast was also able to meet him at the end of the evening. The night was magical for my students."
