Harrison's Cesare Taormina Honored Wednesday

HARRISON, N.Y. – Cesare A. Taormina, of Harrison, died Nov. 5 at his home surrounded by family. He was 81.

A licensed real estate broker for 55 years, Taormina served in the Marines during the Korean War and went on to found a contracting company. 

He was born in Bronx, N.Y. on Jul. 22, 1930 to Giuseppe and Rose Taormina. After serving in the Marines, he went into real estate development, starting Taormina Contracting Company in 1947. As a real estate broker, he worked in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Taormina's community involvement included memberships to the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the New York Athletic Club for over 60 years. He was a founding member of the Columbus Foundation in the Upper East Side in New York City, as well as the Cavalier of the Italian-American Legions of Merit, where he was chairman. 

A member of the Boy Scouts of America board of directors for over 20 years, Taormina was also a member of the Westchester Country Club and the Tiro A. Segno Rifle Club. As a member of the Knights and Ladies of the Holy Sepulchre, Taormina was the recipient of the Grand Cross. He also served as an usher at St. Pius X in Scarsdale. 

Taormina is survived by his wife of 55 years, of Theresa, his son Joseph Cesar Taormina, his daughters Maria Elena Taormina and Elizabeth Ann Byrnes with her husband James and four grandchildren

Visiting hours are Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck. The funeral mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church of St. Pius X, followed by entombment at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Church of St. Pius X R.C.
