Hamilton Girls Take Bob Smith Invitational Meet

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Alexander Hamilton High School girls track team took four first-place titles en route to winning the team championship at Saturday’s Bob Smith Invitational Track and Field Meet at Pleasantville High School.

“This season’s team is not only athletically talented but also has a great desire to succeed together,” Hamilton coach Rich McLeish said. “They are willing to sacrifice and try challenging things for the team.”  On Saturday, “we had two athletes run in the 4x400 meter relay that were last minute substitutions. The 400 can be a scary event to do at a meet if you are not experienced in it.”

Hamilton, the smallest school in the meet, defeated teams from Pleasantville, Westlake, Briarcliff, Byram Hills and Valhalla to win the overall title.

The Red Raiders girls 4x100 relay team finished first with a five-second lead over the second place with a time of 52.3 seconds, which is the fastest time in New York Class C schools this season.

In the sprint medley relay, the speed of the Hamilton girls opened up a lead after Maiya Scotts ran first in the 400-meter leg, Kenya Isabells and Janel Batistes ran the 200 legs and Robin Jessamy ran the 800 leg as the team cruised to an easy victory.

Kenya Isabell cleared 4-feet, 8-inches to win the high jump, a new season best for her.

“The whole team came together with the goal of winning the team title,” MacLeish said. “We missed the win last year by only a couple of points and did not want to repeat history.”
