Sisters Attack Classmate At Bus Stop In Westchester, Police Say

Two sisters were arrested after allegedly attacking a nursing student while they were walking from a Westchester County bus stop, police said.

The incident was reported at around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, April 11, when the caller said there was a physical altercation between two women at the intersection of Purchase Street and Cedar Street in Rye, the City of Rye Police Department announced. 

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who claimed she had been attacked by two women—identified as 37-year-old Shavonne Tanner and 36-year-old Shaniqua Tanner, both of New York City. 

According to police, the victim said she and Shaniqua Tanner are classmates in an internship program at a local rehabilitation and nursing facility. The two were walking from the bus stop when she was allegedly attacked by Shaniqua and her sister, Shavonne, the department said.

Officers interviewed all parties involved and placed both women under arrest. They were each charged with third-degree assault. 

Emergency medical services were requested for the victim, but she declined medical attention, police said.

The Tanner sisters were processed at police headquarters and released with desk appearance tickets. They are due to appear in Rye City Court on Tuesday, April 29 at 9 a.m.
