SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Nicholas Kim has found a way he and his fellow musicians at Edgemont High School can showcase their talents while giving back to their community with "Classics In Concert", a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters set Thursday.
Kim, a ninth-grade pianist, said he saw the talent, the venue and the promise of an important moment for the school's musicians and their audience.
"What spurred this idea was that when I looked around the high school, there were so many talented classical musicians but no one at the school got to see them perform their showcase pieces," Kim said. "I thought it would be chance for the Edgemont High School community to see the talented musicians who they otherwise would not have an opportunity to see performing."
Kim said Big Brothers Big Sisters of White Plains inspired the idea of using the proceeds to help others.
"This concert would serve as an opportunity for classical musicians at Edgemont High School to showcase their pieces in front of an audience, an aspect of music often taken for granted, while supporting a good cause," Kim said. "I felt that it would be an organization that I could eventually volunteer at when I am older."
"Classics in Concert" will be presented at Edgemont High School, 200 White Oak Lane, Scarsdale, from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are priced at $5 for students and $10 for non-students.
