EDGEMONT, N.Y. Voters in the Edgemont School District approved a $50 million budget and elected Jennifer Darger and Brian Yarrington to the board of education.
The budget overwhelmingly passed with 505 votes for and 102 votes against. Edgemont Superintendent Nancy Taddiken said she was very pleased with the results.
"We worked hard to prepare this budget and to preserve the quality of an Edgemont education and still come in under the tax cap," she said. "We are pleased that voters saw we achieved that."
Many voters said Tuesday they thought the district had mapped out a fair budget.
I think they did the best they could do considering the circumstances, Jay Folk said, referring to district cuts in state aid.
The passed budget is projected to increase property taxes $640.24 per $1,000 of assessed property value, up roughly $21 from the current year.
Resident Robert Klerer said the budget wasnt perfect but it deserved a vote of approval.
They were reasonably cheap and kept it within the tax cap, he said. They didnt really overspend.
Newcomers to the board, Darger and Yarrington ran unopposed. They will fill the seats of Trustee Lisa Wexler and current board President Gerry Stoughton, both of whom opted not to seek reelection.
Darger gathered 494 votes while Yarrington recieved 491. School board members serve three-year terms each.
