Suffolk County Police say Jordan Godfrey, 22, of Holbrook, was driving a 2018 Hyundai sedan southbound on Hawkins Avenue near Patricia Lane in Lake Grove when the vehicle went off the road and struck a utility pole at approximately 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

There were four passengers in the vehicle, including Gail Block, 75, of Islip and three children, ages 2, 3 and 7, according to police.

The passengers were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police say. The children were allegedly released to the custody of a parent at the hospital.

Godfrey, who police say was not injured in the crash, was arrested and charged with:

  • Driving while intoxicated
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra’s Law)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (three counts)

Godfrey was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct pending arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday, Dec. 5.
