Police Say Man Tazed After He Ignored Instructions

GREENBURGH, N.Y. – The Greenburgh Police Department tazed a man Thursday night after he refused to get out of his car and then reached for something under the driver's seat, police said.

Kevin Ham, 20, of White Plains, was arrested Thursday and charged with third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. Greenburgh Police Lt. Brian Ryan said police tried to pull over Ham's 2000 Ford Mustang at about 9:30 p.m. in the Crossroads Shopping Center. When Ham wouldn't stop, Ryan said, a "low speed" chase ensued.

Officers used their cars to cut off Ham's, Ryan said. Ham refused to get out of the car when asked, police said, and an officer smashed one of the car's windows. Police said Ham still did not cooperate and reached under his seat, causing an officer to taze him. Ham was then subdued and handcuffed.

Police said that they found 15 clear plastic baggies of what they believe to be cocaine on the scene. He was arraigned Friday.
