Greenburgh Approves New Police Motorcycle Unit

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- The Greenburgh Town Board unanimously voted to create motorcycle unit within the Greenburgh Police Department at the most recent Town Board meeting.

"This was a long anticipated initiative," said Captain George Weisner of the Greenburgh Police Department. "It is important to note that we have not made any vehicle requests this year. We've anticipated and hoped for this motorcycle unit and in fact the operation of a motorcycle is less expensive than the operation of a motor vehicle."

The new department will be responsible for enforcement of New York State vehicle and traffic laws. 

"We believe that the four motorcycles we will purchase will enable the police department to improve enforcement and to reach streets that are difficult to reach quickly. We're proud of our police department. This unit will enable the police to do an even better job of serving our needs." Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said in a statement.
