Ardsley's Safe-Living Coalition Creating Youth PSA

ARDSLEY, N.Y. – A youth subsection of the "Supporting Ardsley's Youths and Families" coalition is currently being formed to create a healthy-living public service announcement geared toward children and teenagers.

Children in grades 7 through 12 are being recruited to join the SAYF coalition's subcommittee to produce a 30-second commercial, either focused on anti-drinking or anti-substance abuse. The students will write, act in, film and edit their public service announcement.

"This will be driven by the youth, so they're going to be able to make the decisions on this," said Theresa del Grosso, the SAYF coalition's coordinator. "It will be about whatever they want to tackle and have their message be about."

The coalition's student-run subcommittee looks to begin their work at the end of January or early February. Their public service announcement is expected to be completed in June. It will then run on the village's cable network.

The SAYF coalition is a village-run operation, partnering with the Ardsley school district to educate the children about safe living.

"Our goal is to be preventive," said del Grosso. "But there are issues with alcohol in teens. In any affluent neighborhood, you're going to have an issue with the young kids drinking."
