WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Instead of following the family around with paper towels and coasters during the hectic holiday season, follow these tips and tricks from MaidPro of Westchester and learn how to handle any stain, spill or snafu.

Red Wine -- Begin eliminating this fearsome stain by drying the wine, followed by mixing one tablespoon of soap with one cup of hydrogen peroxide. Soak a sponge in the mixture and blot the stain with warm water. Once the stained area is soaked, dry it with a towel and watch the wine spot disappear.

Cranberry Sauce -- Rinse the stained area with cold water and pre-treat it with a stain removing solution. Put the fabric through a regular wash cycle and continue to check if the stain is removed before drying.

Lipstick on Napkins -- If a stain is found on a cloth napkin, soak a paper towel with nail polish remover and blot, then wash the napkin with detergent and rinse it. Keep at it until the blotch is gone. Some long-lasting lipsticks may need more work to come out.

Oil Stains -- Time is a factor when it comes to oil stains. Immediately cover the stain with cornstarch for an hour to absorb the oil, then soak the fabric in a mixture of hot water and dish soap. Finally, rinse thoroughly and run the fabric through a regular wash cycle.

Tabletop Ring Marks -- Dissolve these stains by wiping them with a damp cloth, then apply a non-gel toothpaste to the ring. For an even stronger cleaning power, mix toothpaste and baking soda together and apply the same method.
