Certificates were presented to Executive Director Margaret Goldberg by Deputy County Executive Kevin Plunkett; John Ravitz, COO of The Business Council of Westchester; and Dani Glaser, WGBC program director, at a celebration on the 33-acre preserve. Guests included local green community leaders, fellow members of WGB-Certified, GNC board members and staff.

“Congratulations to the entire team at the Greenburgh Nature Center that worked so hard to achieve this prestigious certification,” said Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. “The nature center does a tremendous job of educating children, families, schools and businesses on important green practices such as solar, water conservation, hydroponic and organic gardening. This achievement demonstrates the Nature Center’s commitment to following their own best practices while they educate others.”

In addition to the official certification ceremony, the celebration at the center provided an opportunity for networking and sharing best green practices. Participants had a firsthand glimpse into how the nature center has already benefited from the certification process. They also exchanged ideas on the importance of sustainability practices and policies to save costs, build brands and recruit and retain employees, while reducing the carbon footprint.

“We enjoyed working closely with the nature center through their green business certification process. The team approached the process with openness, sincerity and a desire to always learn. They created a first-class sustainability policy training manual to guide their efforts, which others can emulate. Most importantly, they set the organization up for continued success on their sustainability journey,” said Dani Glaser, program director, Westchester Green-Business Certification Program.

WGB-Certified, launched in 2014, is the region’s only green business certification program for Westchester-based organizations ready to take their sustainability efforts to the next level. Members receive enhanced tools to measure their performance, unique opportunities for peer collaboration, hands-on support from WGBC program staff and a higher level of recognition as leaders within their industries.
