It happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Merrick.

While driving a 2007 Hyundai Sonata eastbound in the Town of Hempstead parking lot M7 at the Merrick Train Station, the operator, Lloyd Sagendorph, 30, of Bellmore, struck a light pole, Nassau County Police said.

Witnesses then observed him back up his car and continue on at a high rate of speed traveling westbound in the lot, according to police.

Sagendorph then struck a concrete train trestle stanchion, causing him to suffer multiple trauma injuries, police said.
