Crash Injures Two, Including Cop, Near Dutchess Gas Station

The Town of Poughkeepsie crash took place around 10:24 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, on South Road in the area of the Mobil Gas Station, said police.

A 2010 Toyota driven by a 42-year-old man from Glendale, Arizona, was traveling north, when he attempted to make an illegal U-turn to travel south and was struck by a Town of Poughkeepsie Police vehicle traveling southbound, according to police.

After the initial collision, the police vehicle then traveled across the northbound lanes of South Road and struck a parked vehicle in Wendy’s parking lot, according to Town of Poughkeepsie Police Capt. Michael O'Dowd.

The driver of the Toyota sustained a head injury and was transported to a local area hospital.

The police officer also sustained a head injury and was transported to a local area hospital, O'Dowd said.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted at the scene by members of the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.

The investigation is ongoing and Town of Poughkeepsie Police is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
