The victim told police that Jamal Morgan, 28, had violently assaulted her over the course of a few days at a home on Butts Hollow Road.

Troopers had been dispatched to the home around 10:38 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a domestic disturbance.

While they were on their way, troopers got another call telling them that the woman had managed to escape and had shown up at the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office sub-station on Route 22 asking for help, police said.

Troopers returned to the residence and found Morgan hiding out at a neighbor’s home, police said.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a felony; third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

The last three charges are all misdemeanors.

The injured woman was taken to Sharon Hospital in Sharon, Conn., where she was treated and released.

Morgan was arraigned in Amenia Town Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, police said.
