Strong, Gusty Winds Cause Scattered Power Outages In Dutchess

Wind gusts that topped 50 mph have left some area residents without power.

As of 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 110 of NYSEG’s 15,621 customers in Dutchess County remained without power, all in Pawling. Central Hudson was reporting 16 active outages in Dutchess County, impacting customers in Wappinger and Rhinebeck. No outages were reported in Putnam.

In Sullivan County, outages were reported in Rockland (31); Bethel (three) and Fremont. In Ulster County, seven customers in Shandaken was still in the dark.

No estimated time of restoration of power has been provided.

Utility crews scrambled overnight to repair hundreds of other reported outages. Winds are still expected to be whipping during the day on Friday, with wind gusts approaching 20 mph with temperatures in the low 20s.
