The conference that creates an opportunity for approximately 700 high school students from all over New York State to come together for a full weekend of learning and peer interaction.
Local attendees included Megan Campbell, Jacqueline Carey, Cecilia Guida, Kristyn Vario and Erin Vaughan, all of Brewster; Noah Emke and Jessica Tocci of Pawling and Aidan O’Sullivan of Poughquag.
Students had a choice of more than 100 workshops taught by colleges, universities and other theatre professionals, including a Sketch Comedy workshop taught by Spotlight Arts’ Margaret Carey.
“I learned so much about different aspects of theater. I am interested in finding out more about directing," said Campbell.
Third-time attendee Jacqueline Carey, was selected as one of only 40 students in the third year program. Only students in grades 10 through 12 can attend and it is a privilege for students to attend for a third year to the conference.
“I strongly recommend students attend the NYSTEA conference," said Carey. "There is a sense of community and comradery among the students, teachers and professionals. The knowledge I gained and the skills I developed will be used for the rest of my life.”
