The Challenge offers participants ongoing support and group workouts, a one-hour fitness assessment, professional before and after measurements and photographs, educational emails and webinars, a private Facebook group, prizes, and a chance to compete on a national level.

“There’s no better way to start the New Year than with a jump-start on fitness and good health,” said Kim Kenyon, managing partner at GGDC. “The 2016 Gold’s Gym Challenge is a great way for people to find the support and direction they need to improve their bodies, minds and spirit.”

New to this year’s fitness contest are challenge ticket events, where participants attend various pre-planned and pop-up events in Gold’s LaGrange and Fishkill gyms and in the community, such as gym workout nights, ice skating at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, shopping, and a nutrition seminar at the House of Nutrition to receive raffle tickets.

During the 2016 contest, all participants also will be invited to join small group training (4-to-1) programs, in which two-to-four people receive in-depth trainer-led instruction on their workouts for maximum results while focusing on individual goals.

One male and one female winner will be chosen in each of five different age categories, starting at 18 to 29 and going through 60 and up, plus overall winners will be selected at the contest’s end.

Chosen local winners then will move on to the national level and a chance to win part of the contest’s $100,000 in cash prizes.

Last year, 15,000-plus club members nationwide participated in the Challenge and lost an average of 12 pounds and 11 inches by the contest’s end.

The first of the Gold’s Gym Challenge’s two flights will kick off on Tuesday, Jan. 5 in LaGrange and Wednesday, Jan. 6, in Fishkill. The second flight will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in LaGrange and Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Fishkill.

An awards reception for all finishers will be held on May 26 at the LaGrange location.

The basic sign-up fee is $49.
