For the last two months, Hannah has been receiving treatment at Westchester Medical Center, which has included multiple surgeries. She has used many blood products and will continue to need more transfusions as she heals, said New York Blood Center officials.
As Hannah’s treatment continues, she and her family are asking the community to donate blood and become one of Hannah’s Hometown Heroes.
The event will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Tymor Park Senior Center, 8 Tymor Park Road, Lagrangeville.
Since the crash, Hannah has used many blood products in her treatment – including platelets, red blood cells, and plasma – and will need more as she recovers, the center said.
It only takes one hour to donate, and burn victims are only one group in need of donations.
A single donation can save multiple lives; nearly 2,000 donations are needed each day in New York and New Jersey alone.
Roughly one in seven hospital admissions requires a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more, they added.
