RYE, N.Y. -- The Lake Isle Country Club boys 10-and-under relay team continued its undefeated ways Wednesday.
Aidan Bowers, Ryan Maierle, Luca Quinones and Nick Torres won the 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay in the 86th annual Westchester County Swimming Championships at Playland Pool. The meet concludes Thursday, beginning 4 p.m.
Along with his relay win, Torres prevailed in the 10-and-under 50-yard breaststroke. The foursome has not lost a freestyle relay this summer. They covered the 200 yards in 2:12.47, outdistancing Greenburgh Swim Team, which recorded a time of 2:17.91.
Tuesday, the team won the 200 medley relay in its first attempt this summer.
The boys get along so well, Lake Isle coach Kevin Lavelle said. They are a close group of friends. And what makes it great is that three of them are nine-year-olds.
Maierle, Quinones and Torres are nine.
The boys were so excited about winning the medley relay Tuesday, Lavelle said. At practice this morning, their goal was to win this event.
Lavelle switched up the order, moving Quinones from the third to the second leg and Maierle from the second to third leg.
I just wanted to try something a little different, Lavelle said. I also knew that if it was close going into the last leg, Nick would finish it.
