BEEKMAN, N.Y. -- Eastchester was facing a sizeable deficit going into the top of the sixth inning against Pearl River, Tuesday, but the District 20 champion would not go out with a whimper. Sophia Tiso led off the inning with a single and five runs later, Eastchester was on the verge of a momentous comeback. However, Pearl River pitcher Riley Mahoney settled down and would not allow it. Pearl River hung on for a 7-5 win the Section 4 Little League Softball Majors losers bracket final at Beekman Little League. Pearl River will face Middletown in the final, Wednesday, 10 a.m. Eastchesters all-star season came to a premature close, but manager Chris Tiso walked off the field with his team very proud of what it accomplished. To go out fighting like the girls did, that is what makes this teams champions, Tiso said. They never gave up in anything they did. Eastchester trailed, 7-0 going into the its last at-bat. When Sophia Tiso led off with a single, it initiated a rally that had Pearl River fortunate to leave with a win. Tiso would score the first run, on a wild pitch, after a walk to Cassie McGrath and infield single by Amanda Graham loaded the bases. Carson DeLasho laced a single to center, scoring McGrath. Consecutive walks to Tori Santamauro, Nicole Calabro and Cassie DiLeo resulted in three runs being forced home. After a Daniella Chiodi ground out brought in Santamauro with the fourth run of the inning, Tiso walked to reload the bases. Mahoney would secure the last out, giving Pearl River a huge sigh of relief. We told the girls that we were going to take it one at a time, said Chris Tiso of Eastchesters approach to the sixth inning. Thats the great thing about baseball and softball, you never what you will find yourself in. Pearl River led, 1-0 through two innings before scoring four runs, with two outs, in the third inning. Tiso, who said this is his first all-star manager post after coaching baseball, said he enjoyed the time with his team. I have memories for a lifetime, Tiso said.
