Popular Performance Lecture Series Returns To Bronxville Elementary

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – In an effort to introduce the arts to students at a young age, officials with the Bronxville School District are continuing the lecture series at the elementary school, which provides students the “opportunity to attend quality performances of music, drama, literature art and science within their own school.

Each year, volunteer faculty members form a steering committee to determine which performances and programs will be most beneficial to the students’ learning experience throughout the year.

The goal of the series is to “bring educationally appropriate programs that enhance the curriculum.” In the past, programs have featured renowned authors, storytellers, scientists and prominent community members who integrate humor, music and audience participation into their educational performances.

Bronxville Elementary School Principal Tricia Murray said that the lecture series, which has been a fixture in the district for decades, provides an invaluable resource for students and teachers alike.

“The children benefit immensely from the experiences they are given and these experiences are usually what students remember the most about their elementary school careers,” she said.

The lecture series is funded entirely through donations provided by the community, meaning no increase for taxpayers. This year, the Lecture Series Steering Committee’s goal is to raise $25,000 for programs. Those interested in donating to the lecture series programs can send a check with their child to school or it can be mailed to the Lecture Series c/o the Bronxville School in the envelopes provided on “Back-to-School Night.”

According to longtime teachers Dianne Aronson, who co-chairs the Lecture Series Steering Committee with Kendall Fousek, “at the end of the assemblies, teachers observe that students leave enthusiastic and motivated to create, learn and discover.”
