The new superintendent is currently collaborating with community stakeholders and Charles Wilson, the former superintendent of Pelham Schools, who has been developing a strategic plan for Tuckahoe that will be implemented by next January.

The strategic plans will be based on the in-depth “needs assessment” that Wilson completed two years ago. It is anticipated that the plan will address areas that include communication and technology as well as curriculum, instruction and assessment, special education and student expectations.

“Since this strategic plan will incorporate our needs, it is anticipated that we will focus our resources for the foreseeable future in fulfilling its stated goals and objectives,” Nuzzi said to parents.

The district will also begin making better use of the increased technology that is available. Many iPads and Chromebooks have been purchased that will be used by students and faculty, and as of Sept. 1, the district will operate under a new electronic communication system, “Blackboard Connect.”

“I am a firm believer in using all forms of communications,” Nuzzi said. “Especially electronic means, to not only ensure that the Tuckahoe community is aware of new developments within our school district, but also to try to eradicate miscommunication.”

Under “Blackboard Connect,” there will be a new series of protocols that guideline how to use the system. Students and parents will receive direct electronic communications from Nuzzi and her fellow administrators alerting the public about changes and improvements in the schools.

Nuzzi has also vowed to revamp the Tuckahoe School District website, with a plan to make it more relevant and timely. Teachers at all grade levels will be trained in how to properly use the new technology being brought into the district.
