Board of Education members voted unanimously to name Moran, a 13-year veteran of the school district, to the position.

Eastchester School Board President David Carforo praised Moran for the wealth of experience he brings to the district.

“We believe that Dr. Moran will provide the leadership, vision and high standards that we deem to be essential in a new superintendent,” Carforo said. “Given his years of experience in the district, he truly understands the culture and values of our community.”

Moran was a key figure in helping the Board of Education pass a 2011 bond to expand the middle school and is currently overseeing the project. Under his direction, standardized test scores have risen.

“He has substantial educational and administrative expertise, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the utmost professional and educational standards,” Carforo added. “We were impressed by his ability to effect change through collaboration and teamwork.”

According to Carforo, the board determined that Moran has the innovation and ability needed to manage a challenging budget, increased enrollment and changes in the field of education such as the new mandated teacher evaluation system.

“Eastchester is one of the premier school districts in Westchester County,” he said. “Under the leadership of Dr. Moran, the district will remain committed to providing all children with a rigorous and appropriate education, to raising academic standards and to bolstering academic achievement.”

Before his time in the Eastchester School District, Moran served as principal at the middle school of the North Rockland School District.

The new superintendent will oversee 3,150 students in the district, which operates on a $75 million budget each year. Moran’s term will begin in July.

“This is a proud community with rich traditions and strong family values,” he said. “I will continue to build on the achievements of my predecessors and provide the leadership to ensure that Eastchester remains a top district that creates the opportunities and environment so that all students can maximize their potential."
