Tuckahoe Residents Cast Their Votes At Tuesday Election

TUCKAHOE, N.Y. – Despite the inclement weather early in the day, a steady stream of voters made their way to the polls to cast their ballots in the Tuckahoe Village Election on Tuesday.

Polls opened at 7 a.m. at the Community Center, and by about 6 p.m., nearly 400 voters had already nominated their candidates of choice. Residents will have until 9 p.m. to make their way to the voting booth.

The poor weather may have slowed some voters, Election Inspector Greg Carden said.

“I think that when the people looked out their window and saw the rain and snow, it made them think twice. You already have to yank people to the polls to vote,” he said. “People will take any excuse they can not to vote.”

District 10 led the way with 100 voters, followed closely by District 13 with 92 voters, District 14 with 90 voters and District 32 with 86 voters.

Incumbent Mayor Steve Ecklond, running unopposed, will retain his position.

Two Democratic candidates are attempting to join the Republican-dominant Board of Trustees. Incumbent Deputy Mayor Tom Giordano and Trustee Greg Luisi – Republicans – will be challenged by Democratic hopefuls Seth Schultz and Andrew Watiker.
