Tuckahoe Police Offer Ways To Keep Burglars Away

According to Bronxville Police Chief Christopher Satriale, there have been multiple reports of larcenies from parked cars that have occurred recently, with the thieves claiming everything from GPS units and coins to computers and camera equipment.

Satriale warned that the thefts were the byproduct of user error, with the vehicles being left unlocked overnight. He advised that any suspicious activity should be reported to the police.

“In all the cases, the vehicles were left unlocked and the property stolen was left in plain view or was stored in the unlocked console,” he noted. “We urge residents and visitors to lock and alarm their parked vehicles at all times and remove all property from plain view and unlocked consoles.”

The Tuckahoe Police Department issued a series of safety tips to residents following a string of five apartment burglaries, including three on Sagamore Road.

In each instance, the burglar entered the residences with no signs of forced entry. Most of the burglaries centered on jewelry in the master bedroom, with the suspect taking a bag or suitcase from the apartment to conceal the stolen goods.

Safety tips from the Tuckahoe Police Department Crime Prevention Unit include the following:

  • Have a deadbolt lock on the front door.
  • Install a door viewer to determine who is at the door before answering. Don’t rely on a door chain, which can be easily forced open.
  • Keep windows and doors locked.
  • Do not buzz someone you are not expecting into an apartment building.
  • Do not hold the door open for a stranger while entering or leaving a building.
  • Use timers for lights, radios and television sets if leaving the apartment for long periods when out of town or on vacation.
