EASTCHESTER, NY - A 30-year-old White Plains resident who tried to back away from a police checkpoint Saturday evening was charged with DWI and cocaine possession.
Police said James Martino caught their attention by driving his 2011 Honda Accord backwards away from a police checkpoint on Leewood Drive. Police reported they found a bag of cocaine lying next to the driver in plain view and said Martino then revealed two more bags hidden under the passenger seat. Martino was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and having a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.08.
He was being held on $5,000 cash bail.
