The officer was trying to stop the woman and her female friend from leaving the store with unpaid products when he was clocked twice by Kiana Craig, around 4 p.m. Friday, Brick police said.

A second loss prevention officer observed what was happening and attempted to intervene, but the suspects fled, leaving the items behind.

Brick Patrolman Brian Ulman was responding to the scene when he saw a car matching the description of the car provided by the loss prevention officers, authorities said. Ullman stopped the car and questioned the occupants, one of whom was identified as Craig, police said.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Craig and her juvenile passenger had stolen from Walmart and were taken into police custody.

Craig was charged with robbery and taken to the Ocean County Jail. The juvenile suspect was processed and released to a guardian.
