Romy Goldsmith Shaprio, of White Plains, is scheduled to face a judge on Tuesday, Jan. 21, for the incident which took place on June 12, 2019.

According to the Westchester SPCA, Shaprio allegedly threw her cat named "Cotton" down the chute from the 19th floor.

The cat was found by a maintenance worker who heard sounds coming from the garbage chute. The black and white cat was found inside the garbage bat in a pet carrier, still alive.

The Westchester County Police responded and contacted the Humane Law Enforcement Unit.

An investigation found that Shapiro allegedly put her cat down the chute on the 19th floor, about eight hours before the animal was discovered.

Cotton did not suffer any serious injuries.

Shapiro, 40, was charged with animal cruelty and abandonment of a cat.
