The recovery center will operate six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. until it closes.
The center had been running from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days since opening Nov. 7. Almost 5,000 people have registered with FEMA since Hurricane Sandy hit Westchester, and 750 residents have utilized the Disaster Recovery Center, Astorino said.
"Hurricane Sandy dealt an enormous blow to every corner of our county, toppling trees in the hundreds, causing coastal flooding in some of our communities along the Hudson river and the long island sound," Astorino said. "And its important we remember three lives were lost."
The County Executive recalled the two boys who died in North Salem when a tree fell on their home, and a Yonkers man who drove into a fallen tree on the Sprain Brook Parkway and died
More than 300,000 homes lost power, and the county suffered $42 million in property damages. This includes $12 million in damages to Rye Playand.
Astorino was joined by representatives from FEMA and the Small Business Administration at the announcement.
People who still need to file a claim with FEMA can visit the center, at 198 Central Ave., or call 800 621 3362. Those needing TTY services should call 800 462 7585. They have until Dec. 31 to register.
