TUCKAHOE, N.Y. On a quest to unite U2 fans around the world, Tuckahoe entrepreneur Christopher Sorgie is getting together with another super fan to create a mobile application to bring the bands expansive fan community together.
Sorgie and Salvatore Petronella, of Long Island, co-authors of "U2itude: The Ultimate Handbook For U2 Fans," are taking their book on the go with a mobile application, U2itude. Fans will be able to listen, rate and discuss their favorite U2 songs.
The creators said that they want the application to be something fans can bond over. They believe it will trigger debate and discussion from fans of the band around the world.
What we schooled from fan feedback to the book was that there was an outspoken [contingency] of U2 fans who need a forum to arrange and plead U2 songs. We wish to give fans everywhere this forum, Sorgie said.
The application will allow users to rate each U2 song on five specific criteria: music, lyrics, message, energy and U2itude. Once songs are rated, they can then discuss their feelings with other fans. Sorgie has also built more than 25 playlists that fans can access.
Sorgie and Petronella are raising funds on indiegogo.com. As of Aug. 1, they have raised nearly 10 percent of their $40,000 goal. The money will be used to hire a top-notch development team for the project. They have already begun meeting and discussing the application with experts.
If the application is successful, the two entrepreneurs said that there is a wealth of opportunities for expansion. Petronella said that the idea could be applied to other popular artists with wide fan bases.
The series will start here, with U2itude, Once it is a proven success, we can apply the focus to other good artists, he said. Artists with vast catalogs and ultra-passionate fans, such as Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and the Black Eyed Peas.
