Elizabeth “Betty” Turner, and her nephew, Danny Lange, presented the Eastchester Community Action Partnership (ECAP) with a $10,000 check that will be put toward the purchase of a “much needed” van for the organization.
Although she now resides in a warmer climate in Dallas, Texas, Turner has long kept tabs on her old home through her nephew, another benevolent citizen who has volunteered for years in the community by offering his expert electricity knowledge to ECAP, aiding with repairs to the facility and helping to organize the popular turkey giveaways that the organization runs each year around Thanksgiving.
According to Patty George, the community liaison for the town of Eastchester, “Lange told his aunt all about what ECAP does for the community, and she wanted to learn more. She spoke with Director Don Brown, who told her of ECAP’s need for a van.”
The van is important to ECAP because it will enable volunteers to deliver food pantry bags to older residents that cannot drive or cannot walk with heavy grocery bags. It also allows members to pick up donations throughout the community, rather than needing locals to drop them off to the Tuckahoe headquarters.
At the latest ECAP Advisory Council meeting, Lange presented his aunt’s check to board members, as well as a second check from his nearby neighbor, who made a donation to the organization in lieu of paying Lange for contracting work he did at his home.
“More fundraising is needed, but this is a great start,” Brown said. “We are so thankful to Betty Turner and Danny Lange for this wonderful donation.”
