How does she do it all? The Eastchester-born and Tuckahoe-raised dynamo says, “I am a very good multi-tasker and I actually don’t waste a minute of any day.” If Bonci has a free evening she will spend it by going to Gilda’s club to talk to people struggling with cancer. “Sometimes people just want an ear to listen or someone to help take their mind off things,” she adds.
Bonci became committed to charity work in 1983, when her first boss suggested she go to the American Cancer Society. “‘This will make or break you,’” she recounts her boss telling her. And the second she walked in, Bonci’s eyes opened up. “I thought to myself, ‘I complain about the littlest things, and here these people are fearing for their lives. It makes you realize how precious life is.” Bonci became determined to help people gain awareness of health struggles, and her efforts snowballed.
“I thank God for the boss that I had,” she adds. And for Dr. Dominick Artuso, the bariatric weight loss surgeon at New Image, who continues to inspire her efforts both inside and outside of the office — which include television appearances, a regular radio show about laser care on WGCH 1490 AM and her weekly program, "What's The Buzz Westchester," which airs every Monday night.
