WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Westchester County residents continue to take advantage of October’s mild weather, as they seek to soak up the colors of fall at area pumpkin patches before winter comes.

Thousands of residents have been flocking to the county’s four pumpkin patches as they seek out the perfect bushel of apples, adorn their homes with corn stalks and sample some of the finest homemade goods in the county.

Gone are the days where families would head out to a desolate field to pick pumpkins and be on their way. Today’s patches include face painting, games, freshly cooked food and everything from homemade syrup to pecan pie.

“You can really make a day out of it now, it’s something our daughter has been looking forward to,” North Salem resident Kris Pierce said at Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard in Croton Falls. “There’s no shortage of things for our entire family to do.”

Other Westchester pumpkin patches include Stuart’s Farm in Granite Springs, Hilltop Hanover Farm and Wilkens Fruit and Fir Farm in Yorktown Heights. Each features its own selection of goods and has a variety of activities for children and adults alike.

Lily Yates, 11, from Rye, said that she got to play with animals at the petting zoo, went on a hayride and played in a “bouncy castle,” on Sunday at the Harvest Moon Orchard.

“And we’re getting my face painted next,” she added.
