More than 73 million pounds of chocolate are expected to be sold over the Easter holiday season, Cargill said in a news release on Monday, April 14. The Minneapolis company estimates that adds up to more than $2 billion in sales.

That's enough chocolate to make more than one billion chocolate eggs or put a half-pound in about 146 million Easter baskets, Cargill said. It could also make nearly 400 million chocolate bunnies – enough to line them up end-to-end from New York City to Los Angeles more than eight times.

Cargill's research shows that eight in 10 shoppers view holidays like Easter as a reason to indulge.

"Easter is all about traditions, and chocolate is at the heart of it," said John Satumba, Cargill's global vice president of food innovation. "Whether it's a classic bunny, a creamy egg or something new and unexpected, we're proud to help some of the most iconic brands create unforgettable Easter moments for consumers."

Milk chocolate remains the most popular Easter choice, favored by nearly half of all consumers. Classic flavors like caramel and peanut butter still lead the way, but more adventurous chocolate lovers are also seeking out sweet, salty, spicy, and sour combinations.

Cargill is the manufacturer behind popular chocolate brands like Ambrosia, Gerkens, Peter's, and Wilbur. The company has crafted chocolate products and supplied cocoa powder and butter to candy makers for more than 50 years.

The National Retail Federation said Americans are expected to spend $23.6 billion on Easter in 2025.
