Children's Safety Day To Return To Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – For the 11th consecutive year, Eastchester town officials will set aside a day in May to educate local children about the importance of safety in their everyday lives.

Law enforcement officials will be on hand to demonstrate a series of important safety tidbits, including how to properly install a car seat and how the K-9 patrol and SWAT team operates in missions.

Free bike helmets will be given away, and there will be photo identifications made as well as fingerprinting. There will be a texting and driving simulator and a demonstration of fatal vision goggles.

Fire officials will provide fire safety tips with a smoke house and a Jaws of Life demonstration, while the Lions Club offers free vision screenings. There will also be upper cervical chiropractic screenings.

There will be various safety exhibits from local organizations, including Lawrence Hospital, Eastchester Communities That Care and Ki Martial Arts. The winners of the poster and essay contest will also be announced.

The event, which is sponsored by the Eastchester Civic Association and the Community Fund will be held from noon to 3 p.m. on May 18 on the Eastchester Town Hall grounds. The rain date for the event will be on May 19.
