MONTROSE, N.Y. -- Three swimmers from Hendrick Hudson High School will participate in the New York State Girls Swimming Championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Ithaca College.

Seniors Emily Sullivan and Lauren Siegel, along with freshman Jennifer Gougelmann, are competitors on the Hen Hud/Croton-Harmon/Somers merged team led by head coach Jen McArdle and assistant coach Christine Krupa.

Sullivan will be returning to the state finals for her fourth year in a row, Siegel for her third consecutive year, and Gougelmann will be making her inaugural appearance.

Sullivan will be heading to Ithaca after qualifying in four different events: the 200-meter individual medley; the 100-meter butterfly; the 200-meter medley relay, in which she swims the butterfly; and the 400-meter free relay.

Siegel has also qualified in four events: the 200m individual medley; the 100m backstroke; the 200m medley relay, in which she swims the backstroke; and the 400m free relay.

Gougelmann has qualified in two events: the 200m medley relay, in which she swims the freestyle, and the 400m free relay.

Athletic director Tom Baker praised the swimmers’ accomplishments leading into the upcoming meet.

“Emily and Lauren are veteran swimmers for the Sailors,” he said. “Each of them have been to Ithaca before, as they are highly decorated swimmers for our team and tremendous leaders.

“This is also a wonderful accomplishment for Jennifer, qualifying for the state finals as a ninth-grader. These young student-athletes have worked very hard at their sport. The state finals are the pinnacle of high school swimming in New York. I have no doubt that each of them will make our community proud when they head up to Ithaca.”

Sullivan recently signed a letter of intent to swim for the College of Holy Cross.
