CORTLANDT, N.Y. – During the last week of June, the Hendrick Hudson School District ran their first ever four-day robotics camp featuring LEGO MINDSTORMS® Robotics, thanks to a grant from Entergy, to combine STEM learning, creativity and fun.
Under the guidance of instructors Robert Molfetta, Blue Mountain Middle School technology teacher, and Todd Leonardo, Frank G. Lindsey elementary teacher, rising fourth through ninth graders created one-of-a-kind robots, modeling real-life mechanisms and using creativity, logic and problem-solving skills, all while learning key STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) concepts in the process. On the last day, students presented their robots to parents.
“We know STEM-related activities and experiences help bridge student learning and promote applications to real-world settings,” said Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter. “Thanks to Entergy’s generous donation, we were able to offer our first ever camp for Hen Hud students to have these experiences with their friends, led by our teachers. We’re looking forward to partnering with Entergy in the future to expand these types of opportunities for our students.”
