CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- The entire staff of the Croton-Harmon School District gathered in the refurbished high school auditorium last week to kick off the new school year and welcome new staff members.

Superintendent of Schools Edward Fuhrman welcomed back the staff, new and old.

“Each year is a new beginning,” said Fuhrman. “We are all in this together. The power of our combined efforts is what makes student success possible. It is important for the students to know we care about them.”

Board of Education President Andrea Furey also addressed the staff.

“Our district thrives on our interpersonal relations," she said. “Our goal is to unlock the potential in our students and make them feel valued, safe, secure and appreciated. We want them to be the best and most capable people they can be. You are all an integral part of a powerful team.”

Band teacher Ivelaw Carrington, president of the Croton-Harmon Teacher Association and and Croton-Harmon High School Principal Alan Capasso also addressed the staff before they reconvened to their respective school buildings and classrooms for curriculum workshops and other preparatory exercises.

The district welcomed new staff embers Ryan Callahan, self-contained special education teacher at Croton-Harmon High School; Glenn Klugherz, school psychologist at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School; Judy Dayton, physics teacher at Croton-Harmon High School; Lauren Fischer, school psychologist at Carrie E.
