Windstorm Sends Tree Through Roof Of Croton House

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- No one was injured Wednesday night when the gusty storm caused a large spruce tree to fall on a Croton-on-Hudson house and leave its roof open to rain, fire officials said.

Croton firefighters were called to the scene about 10 p.m. Wednesday. After making sure residents were not hurt, firefighters found damage to the roof and ceiling inside the home, causing leaking, firefighters said.

In the meantime, several other firefighters were called to put out a utility pole fire at a nearby drugstore on Maple Street. No one was injured, fire officials said.

Back at the house, firefighters turned off power and worked to contain leaking rainwater. Con Edison will have to repair the home's electrical service line, fire officials said.
