Two men wanted by for trying to get money from another person's bank account in Newburgh are behind bars after one ended up in the hospital Monday following a chase with Westchester County Police.

The hunt for one of the men began when Jeremy Sanders, 29, and Andre Kelly, 43, both of the Bronx, attempted to get money out of a flagged account at the Chase Bank branch on Route 9W in Newburgh, around 10 a.m. said Town of Newburgh Police Lt. James Nenni.

Officers arrived while the men were still in the parking lot and Kelly cooperated with police and was taken into custody, Nenni said.

Sanders refused to cooperate and ran from the officer, taking off across the parking lot, running circles around his car and finally, getting behind the wheel and taking off onto 9W, and then onto I-84 East, Nenni said.

Police lost sight of Sanders after that and backed off pursuing him, he added.

A call was put out across the area for officers to be on the lookout for Sanders, Nenni said.

At around 11:05 a.m., a Westchester County Police officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on the Sprain Brook Parkway near the Eastview exit that was wanted by the Newburgh Police Department in connection with an incident that occurred there earlier in the day, said Westchester County Police spokesman Kieran O'Leary.

The officer radioed headquarters and began to follow Sanders vehicle. The officer did not activate lights and sirens as he was awaiting backup from other officers, O'Leary said.

The suspect vehicle eventually noticed that it was being followed and increased its speed. The officer then activated his lights and siren, but Sanders refused to pull over and continued to the Tuckahoe Road exit, where he ran off the road and crashed attempting to exit the parkway, O'Leary added.

Sanders and a passenger then fled from the car.

Westchester County and Yonkers police officers, including a Yonkers PD canine, were able to locate both suspects and take them into custody.

Sanders was taken to Westchester Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries where he was turned over to Town of Newburgh Police, O'Leary said.

He will be facing charges in Westchester in connection with refusing to stop and fleeing from officers. The passenger was not charged.

Sanders and Kelly were charged with felony criminal possession of a forged instrument and petty larceny, Nenni said.

Sanders was also charged with attempted second-degree assault, a felony; and reckless endangerment and obstructing governmental administration for fleeing from police in the bank parking lot.

Sanders is being held at the Orange County Jail on $10,000 bail. Kelly is being held without bail.
