WAPPINGER, N.Y. -- Two Bronx women are in jail after being pulled over for speeding on the Taconic State Parkway Saturday, Dec. 12, police said.
Aside from speeding, New York State Police from the Wappinger barracks said Melanie Melendez, 37, was driving on a suspended license. She was charged with second-degree unlicensed operation.
Her passenger, Theresa Melendez, 54, was allegedly in possession of marijuana and prescription drugs. She was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to police.
Both women were arraigned at Town of LaGrange Court and held in Dutchess County Jail, according to police.
Melanie Melendez was held lieu of $250 bail and Theresa Melendez was held in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
Both are due to appear in East Fishkill Court Dec. 16, police said.
