Memorial Services Set For Award-Winning East Meadow Librarian, Of Freeport

Two memorial services have been set for an award-winning East Meadow librarian who died in July.

Loretta Kelleher who was the reference librarian at East Meadow Public Library died of natural causes on Tuesday, July 23. She was a longtime resident of Freeport.

The New York Times recognized Kelleher with the New York Times Librarian Award in 2003, according to the obituary.

Among the many awards and honors Kelleher had received throughout her career, she was named Librarian of the Year by the Catholic Library Association in 1996, and the Nassau County Library System Librarian of the Year Award in 2003. 

She was a reference librarian with specialties in creating resumes and genealogy. 

Kelleher is survived by one sister, Barbara J. Ostrom of Rochester and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Cure' of Ars Parish,  2323 Merrick Ave., Merrick.

In addition, there will be a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Agnes, 29 Quealy Place, Rockville Centre.
