Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, whose killer was convicted of rape and murder this week, took to the podium on April 16, to address the media.

During a brief statement, Morin was critical of Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, who flew to El Salvador as he probes the case of deported dad Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

"Why are we not protecting the American citizens," Morin said.

"It's just common sense ... Why are we not protecting our children, and to have a senator from Maryland—who didn't even acknowledge or barely acknowledged my daughter and the brutal death she endured, leaving her five children without a mother and now a grandbaby without a grandmother."

Victor Martinez-Hernandez was convicted of abducting and killing Rachel Morin on the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County, Maryland this week.

Morin went into detail about the specifics behind her daughter's death, stating that she was dragged 150 feet by Martinez-Hernandez with blood gushing from her head before he raped her.

"But before he did that ... he stopped on that trail and there were rocks still stained with her blood ... he used them to hammer her head against those rocks ... They say at least 20 times," Morin said.

"When they did the autopsy, there was a six-inch square in the back of her head where the skull was shattered like you'd crush an eggshell."

Patty Morin also said her daughter was dragged through brush and bushes, leaving her body with scrapes and scratches that covered her body.

"They showed us a blood outline, and you could see where blood ran down around her as he was raping her, then he threw her down and raped her some more," she said.

"Then he strangled her because he didn't want her to live to tell the story."

According to Morin, Martinez-Hernandez showed no contrition during the trial, and actually believed he would be let go.

"For the last two weeks in her trial, we saw layer upon layer, upon layer of evidence against the accused illegal immigrant from El Salvador, and the things we thought might have happened we didn't know, but we were at the trial and got the puzzle pieces," she said.

"These are the kind of people that have no compulsion ... To them this is nothing, and when (Martinez-Hernandez) was sitting in the courtroom, he actually looked like he thought he was going to be set free.

"There was no remorse on his face. He took my daughter so violently and so gruesomely and so graphically that they sealed the pictures."

It took the jury less than an hour to render the verdict following the trial, but Patty Morin's attention was also on Van Hollen on Wednesday.

"He (is using) my taxpayer money to fly to El Salvador to bring back someone who is not even an American citizen," she continued.

"Why does that person have more rights than I do ... Or my daughter ... or my grandchildren ... I don't understand this."

Van Hollen reportedly met with the El Salvador vice president, though he was unable to visit or speak with Abrego Garcia on the first day of his trip.

"These are the types of criminals President Trump wants to remove from our country ... These are the types of criminals that we need to remove from our country," Morin added.

"We are American citizens ... Why should we allow people like this who have no conscience at all to murder our mothers, our sisters, and our daughters."
