CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Here are some of the summer events happening around Cortlandt and Croton this week.

Monday, July 16

Puppet Show and Workshop: 4:30 p.m. Kids can watch a puppet production of "Franklin in the Dark" followed by a workshop where they can perform short puppet skits. For children in grades one through three this past year. To register, call the Hendrick Hudson Free Library, at 914-739-5654, or visit the library at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

Make Your Own Earrings: 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Beading instructor Joan Lloyd makes about 500 pairs of earrings every year that she donates to battered-women's shelters countrywide. Her motto: “for every pair you keep, you donate a pair.” Learn to make earrings to aid this worthy cause while treating yourself, too. Supplies will be provided. Contribute any old bead jewelry (broken is fine) to add to her supply. This event is for adults and teens. Tuesday, July 17

PJ Storytime:  7 p.m. Children ages 3 1/2 to 5 are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal. No registration required. For more information call the Hendrick Hudson Free Library, at 914-739-5654, or visit the library at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

Afternoons at the Movies: 4 p.m. This weekly matinee features all G-rated movies for children, at the Croton Free Library, 171 Cleveland Drive, Croton-on-Hudson. Free.

Wednesday, July 18

Outdoor Movie: "Dolphin Tale." This story, based on true events, involves a dolphin named Winter who loses her tail in a crab trap, and the 11-year-old boy who convinces a doctor to create a unique prosthetic for Winter. The movie begins at sundown in Senasqua Park in Croton, located on Elliott Way. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic; the movie will be shown the following day in case of rain.  

Midnight Snacks: 4:30 p.m. For children ages 4 to 6; the kids will hear nighttime tales and make an edible craft. Not suitable for children with food allergies. Register by calling the Hendrick Hudson Free Library at 914-739-5654, or visit the library at 185 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose.

Duct Tape and Pizza Party: For sixth-graders and up. Discover nifty things you can make with duct tape. Get creative with Lindsay Carpenter in a four-week workshop as she shows how to make wallets, bags, ties, and bracelets with a variety of colors and patterns of duct tape. Pizza and cartoons, too. Cortlandt Zoning Board of Appeals: 7 p.m. The board will meet at Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady St. in Cortlandt.

Croton Zoning Board: 8 p.m. The board meets at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building, 1 Van Wyck St., Croton-on-Hudson.

Thursday, July 19

Jeffrey and the Bossy Frog Band: 7 p.m. This family-friendly performance of the Bossy Frog Band will get the family moving with a hopping good time. At Senasqua Park, located on Elliott Way in Croton.
