BUCHANAN, N.Y. - Plant officials say Indian Point Unit 2 was restored to power Thursday evening, after an automatic shutdown of the nuclear power plant that was caused by a faulty electric board which regulates current inside of the plant's main electrical generator.
The automatic shutdown was triggered Wednesday morning, about 6 a.m. The electrical board has since been replaced. There was no release of radioactive material, and power around the region was not affected by the shutdown.
Indian Point Unit 3 continues to operate normally. This is the most recent unplanned shutdown of Indian Point Unit 2 since a transformer explosion in November, 2010.
