CROTON, N.Y. -- The co-owner of Croton's Zeytinia Gourmet Market was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday, Dec. 9 after confessing to participating in a tax-fraud scheme, according to LoHud.com.
Adem Arici, 51, of Easton, Conn., and his owners were depositing credit card payments and cash receipts into a bank account then redirecting the money to keep from paying taxes on it. In all, the owners hid $50 million in profits from the government, LoHud.com reported.
Arici agreed to plead guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence. He was originally facing up to 54 years in prison, according to LoHud.com.
