Cortlandt Declares State Of Emergency Ahead Of Sandy

CORTLANDT, N.Y. - Cortlandt officials declared a state of emergency, closing all town parks until further notice and opening town shelters as Hurricane Sandy blows in.

Westchester County Parks in Cortlandt are also closed, Hendrick Hudson School District and Hendrick Hudson Free Library closed Monday and the Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Healthcare Campus in Montrose canceled all outpatient appointments Monday and Tuesday.

The Muriel H. Morabito Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, is an open town shelter staffed by town employees until further notice. Pets in crates are allowed in the shelter and those wishing to stay should bring non-perishable goods and blankets.

Cortlandt Town Hall closed at noon, Monday. Personnel involved with emergency operations will work throughout the storm. Town personnel distributed about 2,000 sandbags to residents Sunday. A presentation on the supervisor's proposed budget was postponed.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) suspended Metro-North Railroad service 7 p.m. Sunday "until further notice."
