Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Professor and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator Zachary Lippman, 41, was named Wednesday, Sept. 25 one of 26 MacArthur Fellowship, often called "genius grant" recipients. Click here for the fellows list.
The fellowship provides exceptional individuals in a variety of fields with backing for their intellectual and professional pursuits.
Lippman’s research focuses on the genes that determine when, where, and how many flowers are produced on a plant.
Employing a combination of genetic, genomic, and molecular approaches, he is dissecting the gene networks that are responsible for the variation in how flowers form, as a means of developing new principles and strategies for improving crop yields.
“Congratulations to Zach Lippman whose work to improve food production is helping the world solve one of its greatest challenges,” said CSHL President and CEO Bruce Stillman.
“The Laboratory’s biologists continue to pursue research critical to feeding the world’s rapidly growing population and the increasingly limited availability of key nutrients and suitable land for farming.”
The fellowships are awarded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation recognizing the host of artists and scholars for their creativity and potential.
