Here at Brain & Spine Surgeons of NY (BSSNY), we provide a multitude of surgical and non-surgical specialty care to serve the needs of our patients. We are happy to announce the addition of Dr. Ched Nwagwu to our practice. Dr. Nwagwu is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in cerebrovascular disease. He treats disorders that affect the brain and spine and specializes in disease of the blood vessels that supply them. He brings with him vast experience in skull-base and cerebrovascular surgery, treating disorders such as meningiomas, aneurysms, and strokes. Historically, open surgery was the only option for brain aneurysms. Today, endovascular techniques performed by Dr. Nwagwu, also known as minimally invasive procedures, can ensure a smaller incision, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker recovery time.

When Dr. Nwagwu sees a patient, he carefully reviews their medical history and takes their current lifestyle into consideration. Each treatment plan is constructed to meet the needs of each patient individually. “Every patient to me is special. I treat them like they are my own family,” says Dr. Nwagwu. “I often form special bonds with my patients. I even miss them at times.”

Dr. Nwagwu served as Director of the Stroke and Cerebrovascular Program and Assistant Professor at The University of California, Irvine prior to joining Orange County Neurosurgical Associates where he was in successful clinical practice for 14 years.  He served as Co-Director of the Cerebrovascular and Stroke Program at Mission Regional Hospital and Stroke Medical Director at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center.  He was a traveling speaker for the Adam Williams Traumatic Brain Injury Initiative, which has trained over 50 hospitals in advanced brain injury treatment techniques and protocol institution.

On a personal note, Dr. Nwagwu was born and raised in New York City and is an accomplished pianist and organist. He is a two-time winner of the Brooklyn Arts Council Piano Competition while in medical school, earning him the Anna Bernstein Memorial Award for Piano Performance. He has also performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Please visit www.bssny.com to learn more about Dr. Nwagwu and to book an appointment to meet with him.
